Relationship Counselling
My approach to Couples Counselling
As a Relate-trained counsellor, I use psychodynamic and systemic therapy models to delve into the dynamics of your relationship. My goal is to provide a safe and neutral space for you both to gain a better understanding of each other and navigate challenging emotions, ultimately finding new strategies to manage difficulties.
Couples therapy isn't only for those currently experiencing issues; it can also help identify potential problems before they arise. It deepens your understanding of each other, helping to strengthen your relationship for the future.
What to expect:
Improving Communication Patterns
Effective, open and honest communication is crucial in any relationship. During your session, we’ll explore your communication patterns and work together to enhance them.
Understanding Relationship History
How have previous relationships, or past experiences, such as childhood, shaped your perspective on relationships? By examining these patterns, we can determine what is working well and what requires change.
Addressing External Factors
Children, finances, work, cultural differences, and parental dynamics can all impact your relationship. We'll explore these external factors and establish healthier ways to manage them.
Exploring Emotions
I will assist you in identifying and comprehending the feelings and emotions surfacing between you, enabling a deeper understanding of each other's inner worlds.
Resolving Arguments
By exploring arguments together, we can uncover the underlying emotions involved and discover more constructive ways to engage in emotional conversations, ensuring both parties feel safe and heard.
Sexual Relationship Support
I provide a non-judgmental and secure space to address any issues or difficulties you may encounter in your sexual relationship.
LGBT Relationship Counselling
I believe it's crucial for gay and lesbian couples to have a counsellor who understands the unique challenges they face, without the need for educating on the differences between same-sex and heterosexual relationships.
Acceptance within families, gay shame, homophobia, open relationships, and lifestyle choices are some of the issues that can strain LGBT+ relationships. In a relaxed and non-judgmental environment, I aim to help you explore these matters and discover effective ways to navigate these challenges.
Testimonials
-
Kevin provided a welcoming space and was incredibly understanding to our challenges. He always made sure everyone contributed equally and that their feelings were recognised. I found his techniques to improve communication helpful as well.

When we commenced counselling with Kevin we were considering separation and were hesitant to believe that we could reconnect after 30 years. Our sessions taught us how to reconnect with each other, learn to listen without interruption and be vulnerable with each other. It has brought back a mutual respect to our relationship and reminded us both of the love that first brought us together. Thank you Kevin, we will miss you!

Kevin provides a clean and safe space to talk things out with your partner, away from outside distractions. This allowed my partner and I to develop a better understanding of each other and work through some tough conversations.
